Tirana Airport, Albania's only international airport

Tirana Airport (IATA code TIA, ICAO code LATI) is located in the Rinas district, 11 km from central Tirana and about 30 minutes from Durrës, Krujë, Sarandë and Berat. It is the main gateway to Albania and the whole country.

The airport is operated by Tirana International Airport SHPK (TIA), the Albanian airport operator. Opened in 1919 by Pierre Latécoère on the Toulouse-Casablanca route, it is Albania's only international airport, the only one that has operated continuously since 1919. It was renamed Tirana International Airport in January 2007.

Passenger traffic growth

In 2025 it handled 8,500,000 passengers (+7.4% versus 2024), with 69,896 aircraft movements (2025). It is Albania's only civil airport after Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat and Palma de Mallorca, and is growing strongly in south-east Europe. It accounts for around 100% of Albania's international traffic (over 99%).

Hub for Ryanair, easyJet and Volotea

The airport is an operating base for Ryanair (the dominant carrier, with flights from Bergamo, Bologna, Rome-Ciampino, Pisa, Treviso, Naples, Milan-Malpensa), Ryanair (21.9% market share, operating base with 4 aircraft from 2026, flights from Milan-Malpensa, Bergamo, Bologna, Pisa, Rome-Ciampino, Catania, Treviso, Trieste, Lamezia, Verona, Trieste) and Air Albania (the flag carrier). Also active are easyJet, ITA Airways, Iberia, Volotea, Wizz Air, Lufthansa, Norwegian, Eurowings, Brussels Airlines, KLM, Transavia, Jet2.com, TUI Airways. Wizz Air and Ryanair both have operating bases in Tirana, the country's main low-cost carriers.

Marked seasonality

Tirana Airport has marked seasonality but operates year-round: traffic peaks between June and September, with over 200 flights a day at peak in the summer months (July-August), growing strongly post-pandemic. In low season (November-March) the number of flights decreases, but the main connections to Madrid, Barcelona, London, Manchester, Dublin and Amsterdam remain active.
